Does Medicare cover dental care?

Not covered under Original Medicare (Part A and Part B)

Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care — cleanings, fillings, extractions, or dentures.

“In most cases, Original Medicare doesn't cover dental services like routine cleanings, filings, tooth extractions, or items like dentures”

— Medicare.gov — What's not covered

The exception

Medicare may cover dental services that are part of a covered medical procedure: heart valve repair or replacement, an organ transplant, cancer-related treatment, or dialysis for End-Stage Renal Disease.

Can a Medicare Advantage plan cover this?

Often, partly. 4,184 of the 5,480 individual Medicare Advantage plans filed for 2027 report this benefit (76%). Where a plan publishes a dollar amount — 859 of them do — the median annual allowance is $2,000. In 37 of 3,125 counties, no plan filed for 2027 reports it at all — the benefit people are told Medicare Advantage offers does not exist everywhere.

A reported benefit is not a promise of a specific amount, and an allowance is not the same as full coverage. What matters is what the plans in your county filed.

What plans in your county filed

Every individual Medicare Advantage plan filed with CMS for your county, with the supplemental benefits each one reports. Reported, not recommended.

Before enrolling or making a coverage decision, confirm current details with the plan, Medicare.gov, your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), or 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227, TTY 1-877-486-2048). MedicareBenefits.care reports CMS-filed data and does not verify provider networks, pharmacy participation, or final plan terms.
